We install and service this equipment. We do not claim a Daikin dealer tier, badge or award, and nothing here is a manufacturer endorsement of us. Warranty terms and registration windows change without notice, so we confirm the current terms for the exact model you are quoted, in writing.
This is the line we install most often in Whatcom County. That is a statement about our own purchasing, not an award, a certification or a rank.
Daikin against Bellingham's 19°F design temperature
Daikin publishes up to 100% rated heating capacity at 5°F and confirmed continuous operation down to -13°F for both the Aurora and the Atmosphera single-zone systems. Bellingham’s 19°F design temperature sits fourteen degrees above that 5°F rating point, so a correctly sized Aurora is working well inside its published envelope on the coldest ordinary winter morning. The PSE heat-pump-to-heat-pump upgrade rebate pays only on centrally ducted systems, so its COP ≥1.75 at 5°F and ≥70%-of-47°F-capacity tests apply to a Daikin FIT, never to a mini split. Ask for the AHRI certificate covering the exact outdoor and indoor pairing you are quoted, because those ratings move with the pairing rather than with the brand name on the cabinet.
For reference, Washington's energy code puts Bellingham's outdoor heating design temperature at 19°F against 24°F at Sea-Tac, in climate zone 4C (marine). We size from a load calculation against that number and check capacity at 5°F, because that is the figure that decides whether backup heat runs all winter.
Specs and coverage
- Efficiency, as published
- Atmosphera single-zone is published at up to 27.4 SEER2 / 11.2 HSPF2 / 16.3 EER2, Aurora at up to 19.8 SEER2 / 10 HSPF2, and the Daikin FIT ducted heat pump (DH7VS) at up to 19.0 SEER2 / 8.8 HSPF2 in 2 through 5 ton sizes.
- Manufacturer warranty structure
- 12-year parts limited warranty plus a 12-year unit replacement limited warranty on registered residential systems, with online registration required within 60 days of installation. Miss that window and the unit falls back to the 5-year base term, which is the single most common way homeowners lose coverage they already paid for. Labor is not covered under any tier, so a compressor failure in year nine is a free part and a paid day of work. We confirm the current terms and your registration eligibility in writing before you sign.
Published manufacturer figures, checked against product and warranty documentation. Ratings belong to a specific outdoor and indoor pairing, so ask for the certificate covering the pairing on your quote rather than the top of the range.
Our take
Where Daikin earns its price, and where it does not
Daikin is the line we install most often, for unglamorous reasons: the ductless equipment is good, the registered parts term is long, and the seasonal instant rebates are real money on a tightly priced job. It is not the strongest sub-zero machine on the market, and at a 19°F design temperature it does not need to be. Two honest cautions: Daikin runs a large dealer program in Whatcom County, so shop the installer and the scope of work rather than the logo on the brochure. And the industry move to R-32 means an older R-410A Daikin already in your house sits on a different parts path than anything current we would quote you.
