What this work actually costs in Bellingham
Every range on this page is an installed price with a published source behind it. No form to fill out first, no 'starting at' number that nobody pays.
- Installed-price ranges, before rebates
- A source link and a check date on every band
- Fixed quote before work starts — no hourly surprises
Before you read a number
We publish our ranges
The spread on a Bellingham job is knowable. It depends on your existing heat, your panel, your zone count and your crawlspace, and a competent estimator can price all four in an hour. So we print the ranges instead of putting them behind a form.
Each page below carries the range, what moves it, the line items you will see on a real quote, and three worked examples: the price before rebates, the rebates applied, and what you actually pay. Where a number came from published pricing, we link it and date it.
Two things to know first. Every range is an installed price before rebates — equipment, labour, materials, permit and startup, not just the box. And the federal §25C tax credit contributes $0 in 2026: it terminated for property placed in service after December 31, 2025. The money that is still real is utility and manufacturer money, starting with $1,500 from Puget Sound Energy for replacing electric-resistance heat. See the full 2026 rebate stack →

A range, not a quote — and the arithmetic is shown so you can check it. Every band below is a published installed price, linked at the bottom.
Sources, all checked 2026-09-04: ductless by zone, ducted in Bellingham, local aggregator range, panel upgrade, dedicated circuit, heat pump water heater. Electrical work is performed and permitted by a licensed electrical contractor — we hold a general contractor registration, not an electrical one.
The four numbers people ask for most
Installed, in Bellingham, before any rebate is applied.
Ductless Mini Split Cost in Bellingham, WA (2026 Prices)
$3,000–$10,000
Installed, ductless, Bellingham — one zone at the low end through a whole-home multi-zone at the high end. The same local source also publishes a wider $2,000–$14,500 spread for outlier jobs; $3,000–$10,000 is where Whatcom County work lands once the zone count and the electrical scope are settled.
What drives your number →Heat Pump Cost in Bellingham, WA — Installed Prices for 2026
$2,793–$10,058
Installed air-source heat pump, Bellingham, aggregated from local job data. The same source reports the typical band as $5,301–$6,973. A local contractor blog independently publishes $4,000–$8,000 for a ducted air-source heat pump here, with a second local figure of $4,900–$11,700, which brackets the same middle.
What drives your number →One-Zone Mini Split Cost — and What the $2,200 Special Leaves Out
$2,500–$6,000
Installed, one indoor head on one outdoor unit. Wall-mounted heads sit at $2,500–$5,000 per zone, floor-mounted at $3,000–$5,000, ceiling cassettes at $3,500–$6,000 and concealed-duct units at $4,000–$7,500, all per zone. A locally advertised single-zone special of about $2,200 sits below this range because it excludes electrical.
What drives your number →Multi-Zone Mini Split Cost — Price Per Zone, Bellingham 2026
$4,500–$15,000
Installed, two to five indoor heads on one or two outdoor units. Published per-zone counts: two zones $4,500–$8,000, three zones $6,500–$11,000, five zones $10,000–$15,000, eight zones $18,000–$20,000+. The marginal cost of each additional head falls as the outdoor unit is already paid for.

| Work | Low (sorted ascending) | Typical | High | What the price covers |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Heat Pump Cost Per Month to Run in Bellingham — With the Maths | $29 | $70 | $116 | Derived, not quoted, and here is the derivation. PSE Schedule 7 residential energy charge effective 2026-01-29 is $0.141598 per kWh for the first 600 kWh and $0.161015 per kWh above that, plus a $7.49 basic charge; heating is marginal usage, so the $0.161015 tier applies. Seasonal COP is taken as 2.78, which is HSPF2 9.5 ÷ 3.412 — HSPF2 9.5 being PSE’s own Tier 3 midstream efficiency threshold. Applied to 500, 1,200 and 2,000 kWh of delivered heat per month: 500 ÷ 2.78 × $0.161015 = $29; 1,200 ÷ 2.78 × $0.161015 = $70; 2,000 ÷ 2.78 × $0.161015 = $116. Assumption stated openly: the heat-delivery figures are illustrative monthly loads, and the tariff energy charge is the base rate before PSE’s adjustment schedules, so your all-in cents per kWh will be somewhat higher. | Heat Pump Repair Cost — What Whatcom County Repairs Run | $150 | — | $2,500 | Deliberately bimodal, and no single typical is honest here. Minor repairs — condensate pump, expansion valve, contactor, capacitor — run $150–$650. Major component work such as a compressor, condenser or evaporator coil out of warranty runs $650–$2,500 and up. Routine maintenance, which is not a repair, is published at $70–$200 per visit. | Electrical Panel Upgrade Cost for a Heat Pump in Bellingham | $250 | — | $2,500 | The electrical scope that a heat pump or mini split project actually needs, quoted by a licensed electrical contractor. A new dedicated circuit is published at $250–$900. A 200-amp service panel upgrade is $1,300–$2,500, a subpanel $500–$1,700, a 400-amp upgrade $2,000–$4,000, and an electrical permit $50–$350. We are a mechanical contractor and do not perform electrical work; these are the figures to budget for the trade that does. Verified 2026-09-04 · source |
| Reverse Osmosis System Cost — Under-Sink Drinking Water | $300 | — | $950 | Under-sink reverse osmosis system, installed. The same source prices whole-house reverse osmosis at $4,800–$8,000, which is a different machine for a different problem and is covered on our whole-home water filtration page. | Tankless Water Heater Cost — Electric vs Gas, Bellingham | $1,400 | — | $5,600 | Installed tankless water heater, split by fuel because the two jobs barely resemble each other: electric $1,400–$3,000 and gas $2,100–$5,600. No single typical is quoted because the fuel decision, not the model, sets the price. Verified 2026-09-04 · source |

A dash in the typical column means the spread is genuinely bimodal — two different jobs hide behind one label, and the page explains which one you have.
How to read any of these numbers
The low end is a simple job. Short lineset, accessible equipment location, existing circuit adequate, one zone, nothing in the way. The high end is a real house: a 100-amp panel that needs upgrading, a crawlspace that fights back, four zones, a long refrigerant run, or an old system that has to come out and be disposed of first.
Rebates come off afterwards, and they are not part of the range. A ductless conversion at the middle of its band can drop by $1,500 on the PSE electric-resistance rebate alone, and more for an income-qualified household. Each cost page shows the applicable programs and works the arithmetic through in three examples.
Electrical work is priced by a licensed electrical contractor. When a job needs a panel upgrade or a new circuit, that scope is quoted by the electrician, so we show it as its own line rather than burying it in a lump sum.
Your quote is fixed before work starts. The range on this site exists to tell you whether to keep reading. The number that matters is the one on your written quote, and it does not move mid-job.
